Arrianne's Corner: Book Corner # 7 – Enchanted Inc. Series by Shanna Swendson

Enchanted, Inc. series so far contains 8 books and 2 short stories. I got the first book Enchanted, Inc. almost a decade ago in paperback edition when it first published in my country in 2007. At first I only thought it’s only a stand-alone chicklit novel and not even aware that it was part of a bigger series. I do have a slight suspicion then though since the ending in the first book still feels like open to any possibility for another sequel, but back then I didn’t know that it was part of a series since there’s no paperback sequels published in my country up until to this day.

I just found out about the whole series last month. I stumble the series accidentally when I’m browsing for another interesting books to add in my reading list. And since then I pretty much gone to my book case for the first book, re-read it, get the second book in eBook edition and everything went blur. Next thing I know, I already finished reading the whole series back-to-back in less than a week time. And that’s a new record, even for me. I’m so invested in the story, the characters and the world in Enchanted, Inc., that I decided to write a review immediately (despite my already planned other materials), just to get the story of Katie and Owen out of my system so I can move on to my next projects.

Of course this series is not all rainbow and unicorns, it has its up and down, which give me mix feelings about them, BUT… if you’re patient enough to go to the whole journey up until the 8^th book, I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed. Overall Enchanted, Inc. series is a really good stories. It’s funny, quirky, cute, interesting and thrilling at the same time. With a clean romance (there’s no sex scene at all in the whole series, thank goodness), enough humor and office politics, along with magical adventures and mystery to solve, this series is even suitable for young people, although it is not advisable for children below 14 years old without any parental guidance.

Enchanted, Inc. series sejauh ini terdiri dari 8 buku dan 2 cerita pendek. Aku membeli buku pertama Enchanted, Inc. hampir sepuluh tahun yang lalu saat buku tersebut diterbitkan di tahun 2007. Awalnya ku pikir buku Enchanted, Inc. ini hanyalah novel chicklit stand-alone yang tidak terhubung dengan serial apapun. Walaupun harus aku akui bahwa ada sedikit kecurigaan ke arah sana, karena ending dari buku ini sepertinya sangat memungkinkan untuk adanya buku lanjutannya. Tapi saat tidak ada buku lanjutan lainnya yang diterbitkan di Indonesia (bahkan sampai hari ini pun belum ada tersedia edisi Bahasa Indonesia nya), aku sama sekali tidak sadar bahwa buku ini merupakan bagian dari serial.

Hal ini baru aku ketahui satu bulan yang lalu saat secara tidak sengaja aku sedang mencari-cari buku-buku menarik lain yang dapat aku masukan dalam daftar buku yang akan aku baca berikutnya. Dan setelah mengetahui bahwa ternyata Enchanted, Inc. hanyalah buku pertama dari serinya, aku segera memutuskan untuk membaca ulang Enchanted, Inc. dan membeli lanjutannya dalam bentuk eBook. Dan setelahnya semua berjalan sangat cepat, tanpa aku sadari aku telah menyelesaikan keseluruhan buku dalam serial ini secara marathon dalam waktu kurang dari 1 minggu. Aku sangat terjebak dalam dunia Enchanted, Inc. dan para karakternya, sehingga kuputuskan bahwa aku harus segera menuliskan review untuk serial ini walaupun mendahului material lainnya yang sebenarnya sudah aku persiapkan sebelumnya, hanya supaya cerita dan dunia Enchanted, Inc. ini dapat segera keluar dari dalam kepalaku dan aku dapat meneruskan proyek-proyekku yang lainnya yang tertunda.

Memang serial ini tidak semuanya bagus, menurutku beberapa ada yang bagus sekali dan ada juga yang kurang dibandingkan dengan yang lainnya, TAPI… jika kalian sabar membacanya, aku dapat pastikan bahwa kalian tidak akan kecewa. Secara keseluruhan cerita dalam serial Enchanted, Inc. cukup bagus. Ceritanya cukup lucu, aneh, manis, menarik dan mendebarkan pada saat yang bersamaan. Dengan cerita cinta yang bersih (tidak ada adegan sex sama sekali di dalam serial ini, syukurlah), kadar humor dan politik kantor yang cukup menarik, bersamaan dengan petualang magis dan misteri yang harus dipecahkan, serial ini bahkan cocok untuk kaum muda, walaupun tidak disarankan untuk bacaan anak-anak di bawah usia 14 tahun tanpa pengawasan orang tua.

Enchanted, Inc. tells a story of an average young woman name Kathleen Chandler, or mostly known as Katie. Katie is just an ordinary 26 years old girl from a small town in Texas, and she just moved to New York City a year ago. She lives in a small apartment with two of her college best friends from Texas, Gemma and Marcia. Besides her crazy Boss, Mimi and weird things that she sees all over the city, Katie is basically just loves New York. But her life will just get weirder and complicated when she got a job offer with better salary and a not so crazy Boss to work with. The only problem is that the job offer comes from a Magic Company called MSI, Inc., and she has to keep her work life a secret from everyone else including her roommates and family. The day when she accepts that job offer, her ordinary life changes to an adventure of a lifetime in order to save the world.

On the latest books in the Enchanted series, the author, Shanna Swendson make a note that she sets Enchanted, Inc. to start around fall season on 2005. So based on that information, we can assume the story in Enchanted Inc. begins around September 2005, since there’s hint in Enchanted, Inc. that the story started one month before Halloween when Katie first got introduced to the Magical world and first met with Owen and his best friend Rod from MSI. The story sets in modern day New York City, but in more than a decade ago when flip phone is still a new thing and smartphone hasn’t invented yet.

Well, Enchanted, Inc. is one of my favorite chicklit book because it is fresh, quite different and unique compare with other books in the Chicklit Genre. It tells about Magical Fantasy world combine with modern day life, business world and office politics. And since I just love fantasy world filled with magic, fairy and a little bit mystery and humor in the mix, I really enjoying reading it. The story is fresh and entertaining, and the characters are loveable. It served its purpose as a light and fun reading. When I first finished read Enchanted, Inc. years ago, I keep wondering if there will be any sequels because I feel that the ending in Enchanted, Inc. is not quite wrapped up and the story feels still open to any possibilities. Imagine my delight when I found out not too long ago that Enchanted, Inc. have another 7 books more in the series. Apparently, the adventures of Katie Chandler and her friends in MSI in Enchanted Series is far from over.

Too bad that so far Enchanted, Inc. (Book 1) is the only book in the series that published in Indonesia in paperback edition, but you could find the sequel books in eBook format, though only available in English.

Well, Enchanted, Inc. merupakan salah satu buku tipe Chicklit favoritku karena cerita di dalamnya berbeda dengan buku-buku Chicklit lainnya. Jalan ceritanya terasa unik dan segar dibandingkan buku-buku chicklit lainnya karena mengkombinasikan antara Fantasy dan Sihir dengan kehidupan bisnis modern dan politik kantor. Dan berhubung aku sangat menyukai tema fantasy yang penuh dengan sihir, peri dan sedikit campuran misteri dan humor, aku benar-benar menikmati membaca buku ini. Ceritanya menghibur dan unik, serta para karakter di dalamnya cukup dapat menyentuh dan mudah untuk dicintai. Buku ini benar-benar mencapai tujuannya sebagai bacaan ringan yang sangat menghibur.

Saat aku pertama kali selesai membaca Enchanted, Inc. beberapa tahun yang lalu, aku memang sempat bertanya-tanya apakah buku ini aka nada kelanjutannya, karena terus terang akhir cerita di dalam Enchanted, Inc. masih membuka peluang untuk pengembangan cerita yang lebih lagi dan belum benar-benar selesai. Dan aku benar-benar senang saat mengetahui belum lama ini ternyata Enchanted, Inc. ternyata ada kelanjutannya sebanyak 7 buku. Ternyata kisah petualangan Katie Chandler dan teman-temannya di MSI masih jauh dari selesai.

Hanya cukup disayangkan bahwa sampai saat review ini dibuat, Enchanted, Inc. (buku pertama dari serial ini) merupakan satu-satunya buku yang diterbitkan di Indonesia, untuk buku-buku kelanjutan serial ini aku dapatkan dalam versi eBook, dan hanya dalam versi Bahasa Inggris saja, tidak ada edisi Indonesianya.

Katie Chandler is enjoying her new job as an executive assistant for the CEO of MSI, Inc., a magical company that sells spells to the magical community. But with the bad guy, Phelan Idris, still on the loose in New York and scheming for another evil plan to take down MSI, Katie just cannot rest and enjoying her life and her new relationship with Ethan Wainwright. Especially when there’s suspicion that there’s someone in the company is spying them and giving top secret information to Idris so he then can counter MSI and Owen’s every move to stop him. And to make everything more complicated, her parents decided to visit her and stay in the city for a week for Thanksgiving holiday. As she learns that her mother is also an immune, she also notices that her immunity is weaker and weaker each day, which means that there will be a big target mark on her back. With Idris’ people that are after her and there’s still a spy to catch, she must find out what to do in order to save herself and the people around her from the danger that could threaten them all.

Once Upon Stilettos is the sequel of Enchanted, Inc., and too bad that there’s no paperback edition publish in Indonesia for Once Upon Stilettos yet (and also the rest of books in the series) since the story just getting more and more interested in Once Upon Stilettos. Like Enchanted, Inc., Once Upon Stilettos is quite entertaining with a lot of humor in it and very intriguing for me to follow Katie’s adventure to solve the mystery. This book is a quick, light and fun reading. I really enjoying the story and all the supporting characters in it, even Idris. But I don’t like Katie’s character portrayal in this book, since it doesn’t make sense for me that she’s usually have the common sense and then she can be so stupid enough to hide her condition from everyone else that could help her, especially from Merlin and Owen. But the ending for this book is just fantastic and I really loved it, which can make up for my little disappointment for Katie’s characters. There’s still a ton of questions that left unanswered that you have to found out in the next books.

Once Upon Stilettos berlatar belakang kota modern New York, dan ceritanya dimulai satu bulan setelah akhir cerita dalam Enchanted, Inc. di awal bulan November 2005, sebelum liburan Thanksgiving, dan berakhir di pertengahan Desember tahun yang sama, sebelum libur Natal. Katie Chandler menyukai pekerjaan barunya sebagai Asisten Executive untuk CEO dari MSI, Inc., sebuah perusahaan sihir yang menjual dan memproduksi mantra ke masyarakat sihir. Tetapi dengan kehadiran penyihir jahat, Phelan Idris, yang masih bebas berkeliaran di New York dan sedang merancang rencana jahat berikutnya untuk menjatuhkan MSI, Katie tidak dapat beristirahat dan menikmati hidupnya dengan kehadiran pacar barunya Ethan Wainwright. Apalagi dengan adanya kecurigaan bahwa ada seseorang di dalam perusahaan yang memata-matai mereka dan membocorkan informasi rahasia kepada Idris sehingga ia dapat dengan mudah menghindar dari upaya-upaya yang dilancarkan oleh MSI dan Owen untuk menghentikan mantra jahat Idris. Dengan para orang suruhan Idris yang terus membuntuti dan mencoba menyerangnya, serta mata-mata yang masih belum tertangkap, Katie harus secepatnya mencari solusi apa yang ia harus lakukan berikutnya untuk menyelamatkan dirinya dan orang-orang di sekelilingnya dari bahaya yang mengintai mereka semuanya.

Once Upon Stilettos merupakan buku lanjutan dari Enchanted, Inc., dan benar-benar sayang tidak ada edisi Bahasa Indonesianya yang diterbitkan di sini (dan juga buku-buku lanjutan lainnya dalam seri ini) karena jalan cerita dalam Once Upon Stilettos ini menjadi lebih seru dan semakin menarik. Sama seperti Enchanted, Inc., Once Upon Stilettos benar-benar menghibur dengan banyaknya humor dan ketegangan yang terasa saat mengikuti petualangan Katie dalam memecahkan misteri siapa mata-mata dalam MSI. Buku ini merupakan bacaan yang ringan, dengan tempo cerita yang cukup cepat namun cukup menyenangkan dan menghibur untuk dibaca. Aku sangat menikmati jalan cerita dalam buku ini, juga para karakter yang ada di dalamnya, bahkan Idris. Tetapi aku kurang suka dengan penggambaran karakter Katie dalam buku ini yang rasanya menjadi berubah dari sebelumnya mempunyai pemikiran logis, menjadi agak bodoh dengan mencoba menyembunyikan keadaannya dari semua orang yang sebenarnya dapat membantunya, terutama Merlin dan Owen. Tetapi akhir cerita dalam buku ini cukup fantastis dan cukup dapat mengobati kekecewaan akibat kebodohan Katie, dan aku sangat menyukainya. Memang masih banyak hal yang masih menjadi pertanyaan dan belum terjawab di buku ini, yang kelihatannya disimpan untuk di buku selanjutnya.

Damsel Under Stress sets in modern day in New York and tells the love story between Katie Chandler and Owen Palmer. The story in Damsel Under Stress begins just where Once Upon Stilettos left off, a day after the Christmas office party at MSI, just a week away before Christmas Holiday and play out until early January the following year. Just when at last everything seems to be working out for Katie and Owen, trouble just keeps following them every single step of the way. From a sudden appearance and unwanted help of a Fairy Godmother that mostly ruining than helping her dates with Owen, the mysterious escape of their prisoner, the trouble of Idris’ evil creatures that sent to harm Katie and Owen, and to the real threat from Idris’ new company that apparently backed by powerful people and a big funding in order to take down MSI. Katie must find a way to take down Idris for good, while deals with office politics in order to maintaining her job.

Damsel Under Stress gives me mix feelings while reading it. Sure I quite enjoying myself reading it, it was funny and entertaining at first, but along the way I just feel frustrated with the outcome. In Damsel Under Stress, we will learn about Philip’s last name and his background story. And there’s some highlight moments when both Owen and Katie are spending their Christmas holiday with his foster parents which gives me a warm feeling and wonder there’s got to be something more to the story. But again just like Once Upon Stilettos, I’m not a fan of Katie’s portrayal and her lack of judgment in this book when she still decided to hide things from Owen. While reading, I just want to smack her head and yell to her: “Jeez Girl, haven’t you learned your lessons before?”.

I understand that she’s new to the couple thing with Owen, but hey they’re already friends before they become a couple, so I don’t see why she shouldn’t trust him and keeping secrets from him. Owen has proved himself over and over again that he’s capable in finding solutions and the most important thing is that he cares about her. Everything will be a lot different if only Katie didn’t hide anything from Owen, or at least tells him a lot sooner. But I guess that is essential to the plot twist, although I’m definitely not happy.

There’s still a lot of questions left unanswered like who are the powerful people behind Idris evil scheme and what will happen next to keep me going reading the next book, but this book definitely not the best book in the series. And the ending is just awful. I think the author wants to take a risk in making surprise plot twist, but unfortunately it didn’t pay off and only destroy the story. It comes out of nowhere, and I just cannot describe the level of stupidity behind the decision that Katie made herself without at least talk it through it first with Owen. Boy, she really needs to learn a lot to communicate better. If only the ending is not so stupid, Damsel Under Stress could be a really great book.

Cerita dalam Damsel Under Stress dimulai di bulan Desember, tepat menyambung akhir cerita dalam Once Upon Stilettos, di hari berikutnya setelah pesta Natal di MSI, hanya satu minggu sebelum liburan Natal dan berlangsung sampai dengan awal Januari tahun berikutnya.

Saat semuanya terlihat berjalan sempurna untuk Katie dan Owen, masalah demi masalah terus saja mengikuti mereka dalam setiap kesempatan mereka bersama. Dari kemunculan tiba-tiba dan bantuan yang tidak diinginkan dari seorang Fairy Godmother yang lebih mengganggu daripada membantu kencan Katie dengan Owen, misteri kaburnya tahanan mereka, bahaya yang mengintai dari para makhluk jahat suruhan Idris yang dikirim untuk menyakiti Katie and Owen, dan ancaman serius dari perusahaan baru Idris yang didukung oleh orang-orang yang berkuasa dan dengan sokongan dana yang besar dalam rencana mereka meruntuhkan MSI. Damsel Under Stress membawa perasaan yang campur aduk selama membacanya. Tentu saja aku menikmati membacanya, ceritanya cukup lucu dan menghibur untuk sebagian besar bagian awalnya, tetapi sejalan dengan perkembangan ceritanya, aku cukup kecewa dengan akhir dari ceritanya.

Di dalam Damsel Under Stress, kita akan mengetahui nama keluarga Philip dan latar belakang alasannya mengapa dia berada dalam kutukan kodok selama seratus tahun terakhir. Dan ada beberapa moment manis ketika Owen dan Katie menghabiskan liburan Natal bersama kedua orang tua asuh Owen yang cukup memberikan perasaan hangat dan haru serta membuatku bertanya-tanya pasti ada sesuatu yang menyebabkan kedua orang tuanya bersikap seperti itu. Tetapi sekali lagi sama seperti dalam Once Upon Stilettos, aku tidak menyukai gambaran dari Katie dan kurangnya pemikiran logisnya kembali di dalam buku ini ketika ia sekali lagi memutuskan untuk menyembunyikan beberapa hal dari Owen. Sementara membacanya, aku hanya ingin menjitak kepalanya dan berteriak padanya: “Astaga, apakah kau tidak pernah belajar dari kesalahanmu sebelumnya?”.

Aku paham bahwa dia memang baru dengan kondisi berpacaran dengan Owen, tetapi mereka kan sudah berteman baik sebelum mereka menjadi pasangan, bahkan Katie di dalam buku-buku sebelumnya menganggap Owen sebagai salah satu kawan terbaiknya yang dapat dipercaya dan diandalkan. Jadi aku tidak dapat mengerti mengapa sih dia masih menyimpan rahasia dari Owen. Sudah jelas-jelas Owen sudah beberapa kali membuktikan kepada Katie bahwa dia lebih dari mampu untuk dapat diandalkan untuk memecahkan masalah apapun yang mereka hadapi bersama, dan yang paling penting adalah Owen benar-benar peduli padanya. Semuanya tentu saja akan menjadi berbeda jika saja Katie belajar untuk tidak menyembunyikan apapun dari Owen, atau setidaknya memberitahukan kepadanya sedikit lebih cepat sehingga mereka setidaknya dapat menikmati waktu kencan yang berkualitas. Tetapi aku rasa hal itu memang diperlukan dan penting untuk plot twist yang direncanakan oleh si pengarang, walaupun tentu saja aku tidak happy dengan hasil akhir ceritanya.

Masih ada banyak pertanyaan yang menggantung seperti siapa orang berkuasa yang berada di belakang rencana jahat Idris dan apa yang akan terjadi berikutnya yang tentu saja membuat aku masih penasaran untuk membaca buku selanjutnya. Tetapi buku ini tidak akan menjadi buku yang terbaik di dalam seri ini dengan akhir cerita yang benar-benar sangat buruk. Mungkin si pengarang ingin mengambil sedikit resiko dengan memunculkan plot twist kejutan dan untuk menimbulkan efek cliffhanger di akhir cerita, tapi maaf sekali hal itu malah berbalik dan menghancurkan cerita bagus yang sudah dibangunnya. Akhir cerita itu datang tanpa disangka-sangka dan sebenarnya tidak perlu terjadi, dan terus terang aku tidak akan pernah paham level kebodohan dari keputusan yang diambil Katie tanpa setidaknya membicarakan dahulu dengan Owen. Astaga, dia benar-benar membutuhkan banyak belajar mengenai cara berkomunikasi yang baik. Jika saja akhir ceritanya tidak buruk seperti itu, sebenarnya Damsel Under Stress dapat menjadi buku yang cukup bagus.

Don’t Hex With Texas sets in Katie’s small hometown in Cobb, Texas, and the story begins in April 2006, a couple of months after the ending of Damsel Under Stress. Katie decided to left New York and return to her hometown in Cobb, Texas to avoid magic. But after a couple of months enjoying the peaceful and very boring life working for her small family’s company, it seems that magic follows her to her magic-free small hometown. She begins to notice several incidents that lead her to believe that somebody in her hometown is a new wizard and using Idris’ spell to commit crime. When she reports those incidents to Merlin, she didn’t expect that Owen will be taking the case. Together with Sam, all three of them begins their investigations around town to try to capture that new wizard before everything gets bad.

Ok, there’s nothing really could Wow me about Don’t Hex With Texas. Maybe part of my judgement influenced by the disappointment and anger that I felt about the ending in the previous book, Damsel Under Stress, but really I’m not seeing something special in what happens in Don’t Hex With Texas than an effort from the author to pick up the pieces after the bad ending and try to put everything back on track to the main plot. Ok, I understand that we need to get to know Katie’s family in Texas and where she gets her special talent as magical immune, but the ending in Damsel Under Stress just ruining the feels in the book. I just can’t understand what is the necessity from the author to decided that dreadful ending. If only Damsel Under Stress could end with a much better way like… Spoiler alert <instead of drop and leaving everything she had in New York and breaking Owen’s heart in the process, why can’t Katie just ask for a time off from work and visit her family for a while in a vacation when Idris stay low and going underground? By doing this way, Don’t Hex With Texas will still have its story to tell the way it should be without any major changes and everyone is still happy…>

But that ending in Damsel Under Stress already happened, and to be fair, Don’t Hex With Texas is not a bad book, it’s just not so thrilling like the first two books. Don’t Hex With Texas feels like only serve as a rebound book after the disappointment ending from Damsel Under Stress. And therefore I think Don’t Hex With Texas only an unnecessary prolong book in the series before the big surprise finally reveal in the next book. I just hate it when authors do that. To be honest I just love Owen and I really touched by his action to come to the rescue above and beyond when Katie needs him. This is the only reason that keeps me going in reading whole the series, but I still think that Katie is sooooo not deserve him at all after what she did.

Don’t Hex With Texas berlatar belakang di kota kecil Cobb di Texas tempat tinggal keluarga Katie, dan ceritanya dimulai di bulan April 2006, beberapa bulan setelah akhir cerita dalam Damsel Under Stress. Katie memutuskan meninggalkan kota New York dan kembali ke kampung halamannya di Cobb, Texas untuk menghindari sihir. Tetapi setelah beberapa bulan menikmati keadaan damai tanpa sihir dan menjalani kehidupan rutinitas membosankan bekerja untuk perusahaan keluarganya, tiba-tiba kelihatannya sihir akhirnya mengejarnya ke kota kecilnya yang tadinya bebas sihir. Katie mulai memperhatikan ada beberapa kejadian mencurigakan di pusat kota dan kelihatannya ada seorang penyihir baru yang sedang mempraktekkan mantra-mantra jahat buatan Idris untuk melakukan kejahatan. Ketika ia melaporkan hal ini kepada Merlin, senang bertemu kembali dengan Sam yang diutus untuk mencari informasi, tapi Katie tidak mengharapkan Owen juga akan datang menyelidiki sendiri. Ok, tidak terlalu banyak yang dapat memberikan Wow efek mengenai Don’t Hex With Texas. Mungkin bisa jadi sebagian penilaianku agak terpengaruh dengan kekecewaan dan perasan marah yang aku rasakan di akhir cerita buku sebelumnya Damsel Under Stress, tetapi aku benar-benar tidak dapat menemukan sesuatu yang luar biasa di dalam Don’t Hex With Texas selain usaha dari pengarangnya untuk mengembalikan kekacauan yang terjadi sebelumnya ke plot awal. Ok, aku memang mengerti bahwa diperlukan Katie dan Owen untuk berada di Texas untuk mengenal seluruh keluarga Katie dan mengetahui mengapa dia mempunyai kemampuan spesialnya sebagai seseorang yang kebal terhadap sihir, tetapi bagiku akhir cerita dalam Damsel Under Stress sudah benar-benar merusak mood untuk dapat menikmati membaca buku ini. Sorry, aku hanya tidak dapat melihat hal apa yang sangat penting dan yang sangat ingin dicapai sehingga mengharuskan sang pangarang memutuskan harus mengunakan akhir cerita itu. Spoiler alert <Katie bertindak pengecut dengan pergi begitu saja dan meninggalkan segalanya di New York tanpa setidaknya mencoba membicarakan segala sesuatunya terlebih dahulu dengan Owen sehingga mematahkan hati Owen dalam prosesnya; mengapa tidak mencoba dari pendekatan lain misalnya Katie meminta cuti dari kantornya dan mengunjungi keluarganya sementara Idris sedang menjalankan taktik gerilya dalam memasarkan bisnis dan mantra-mantranya? Dengan melakukan hal ini, setidaknya Don’t Hex With Texas akan tetap mempunyai jalan cerita yang sama dengan yang ada sekarang tanpa perubahan apapun, dan perasaan yang dimiliki oleh para pembaca akan tetap terasa positif, bahkan mungkin dapat menikmati kekonyolan dari hiruk pikuk suasana di dalam keluarga Katie sebagai perubahan setting tempat cerita yang dapat terasa menyegarkan…>

Tetapi karena akhir cerita dalam Damsel Under Stress sudah terlanjur terjadi, dan secara adilnya Don’t Hex With Texas bukan buku yang sangat jelek, hanya saja tidak terlalu menegangkan seperti dua buku pertama dalam seri ini. Bagiku Don’t Hex With Texas hanya terasa sebagai buku untuk mengisi kekosongan dan mengembalikan alur cerita kembali ke plot cerita utama setelah akhir cerita dalam Damsel Under Stress. Dan oleh sebab itu aku rasa Don’t Hex With Texas hanya merupakan sebuah buku tambahan untuk memperpanjang cerita dalam serial ini sebelum kejuatan besar dalam alur cerita utama di ungkap dalam buku-buku berikutnya. Aku benci jika pengarang melakukan hal itu. Sejujurnya aku sangat menyukai Owen dan tersentuh dengan semua yang dilakukannya untuk selalu datang dan menyelamatkan Katie setiap kali Katie membutuhkan dirinya. Aku rasa di titik ini hanya inilah satu-satunya alasan yang masih membuatku masih ingin memberikan kesempatan untuk membaca buku-buku berikutnya di dalam serial ini. Namun perlu aku tegaskan bahwa Katie di titik ini sangat tidak pantas mendapatkan Owen sama sekali setelah semua yang telah ia lakukan dan penderitaan yang ia berikan kepada Owen sebelumnya.

Much Ado About Magic sets in modern day New York and the story begins just right after the ending of Don’t Hex With Texas, in early May 2006 until summer time in July 2006. Katie is finally back to New York and back working for MSI as the new Marketing Director. And apparently she’s back just in time because there’s still threat from the mysterious people who back up Idris evil plan. Their competition, Spellworks, takes the magical business too far by spreading chaos with their evil spells and profited by selling the antidote protective amulet of their own spells. They’re creating public persona and makes MSI looks bad to the magical community since MSI didn’t seems cannot stop the chaos. Owen’s effort by helping the Council Authorities to stop the bad guys also twisted by Spellworks, and they make Owen like the bad guy behind all the crimes that happens.

In order to tone down the negative talk, MSI decided to held a marketing event to show their customers about their spell achievements and make Owen as one of the key speaker as a way to show the public that everything in the bad rumors are not true. Little that they know that the event is used by the competitor to add another surprise stealth attack that no one sees it coming in order to make MSI, Merlin and Owen looks really bad and untrustworthy. Now with everything falling apart for MSI, and with Owen and Merlin as the main targets for the downfall, Katie must find a way to fix everything. And she has to do it fast before everything is too late for them all and she could lose everything, including the man she loves if she lets the bad guys win.

Ok, so all the plots and storylines from the 1^st to 4^th book are escalated to this point. In Much Ado About Magic, we finally have all the answers that we are looking for. There are so much plots twist in Much Ado About Magic that really surprise me and keep me on the edge while reading. The story is so good that I just can seem to put it down before I finished the book. I think that in Much Ado About Magic, Katie got a chance to redeem herself and prove herself worthy to get Owen. I think that her character finally grow up to be a better person. The bittersweet ending also feels perfect, because I know that there’s still 3 more books to the series, which means that there is still hope to hold on to. So I guess Much Ado About Magic is enough to make up for all the disappointments I felt when reading the previous two books (Damsel Under Stress and Don’t Hex With Texas). I’m just glad that after reading Don’t Hex With Magic, I still give this series another chance.

Dan kelihatannya Katie kembali tepat waktu karena para dalang misterius yang mendukung di balik rencana jahat Idris kembali menebarkan ancaman. Perusahaan saingan MSI, Spellworks, menaikkan taruhan dalam pertarungan bisnis mereka dengan meyebarkan kekacauan di kota dengan mantra-mantra jahat mereka dan mengambil untung dengan menjual anti-mantra yang melindungi pemakainya dari mantra jahat yang mereka jual sendiri. Dalam Much Ado About Magic, kita akhirnya mendapatkan semua jawaban yang belum terjawab dari buku pertama. Ada banyak plots twist di dalam Much Ado About Magic yang cukup membuat terkejut dan menegangkan selama membaca buku ini. Ceritanya benar-benar bagus dan mendebarkan sehingga aku benar-benar tidak dapat menutup buku ini sebelum sampai di halaman terakhir. Aku merasa bahwa dalam Much Ado About Magic, Katie mendapatkan kesempatan untuk membuktikan bahwa dirinya pantas mendapatkan Owen dan menebus kesalahannya di 2 buku belumnya. Akhirnya karakter Katie berkembang menjadi agak dewasa sedikit dan tidak lagi terlalu menyebalkan seperti sebelumnya. Bahkan akhir cerita yang mengharukan dalam Much Ado About Magic ini juga terasa benar-benar sempurna, karena aku tahu bahwa masih ada 3 buah buku lanjutannya haha, jadi berarti masih akan ada harapan. Aku rasa Much Ado About Magic lebih dari cukup untuk menebus semua rasa kekecewaanku dalam membaca dua buku sebelumnya (Damsel Under Stress dan Don’t Hex With Texas). Aku hanya lega bahwa setelah membaca Don’t Hex With Magic, aku masih memberikan kesempatan bagi serial ini dan itu terbayarkan di dalam buku ini...

Now that the Magic, Spells, and Illusions, Inc. team has defeated the nefarious Spellworks, the only "competition" in town, Katie Chandler doesn't have much to do as director of marketing, and she's starting to question her role at MSI. Her boyfriend Owen Palmer, on the other hand, is in hog heaven, translating an ancient and powerful magical manuscript.

But then he finds that the cryptic text describing the location of an enchanted gem known as the Eye of the Moon has radically changed. This deadly stone gives its holder enhanced power over others and a craving for more power. It once caused a terrible war before it was safely hidden and then lost - and now it seems to be in New York and set in an elven brooch that renders its wearer invulnerable. Whoever has this brooch could take over the world.

Katie and Owen must find it before anyone else does, and they're not the only ones searching. They'll need all the help they can get, including Katie's visiting grandmother. But who can they trust when their allies fall under its spell? Not to mention the new enemies who are deadlier than anything they've faced before.

No Quest For The Wicked sets in modern day New York a couple of months after the ending of Much Ado About Magic, around September 2006. The whole story in No Quest For The Wicked happens only in duration of one whole day. It is full of adventures from the characters, while they are doing a very dangerous quest to retrieve two very dangerous relics combine together: the Eye of The Moon, which created by Merlin a long long time ago and he still regret it to this day, and the Knot of Arnholt, which belong to the Elven people. Each single relic is enough to stir in trouble and chaos if it falls into the wrong hand. But if combine, they could be the greatest weapon to control the worlds. So only Katie and Owen who could safely obtain those relics and destroy it before someone else could use it for the wrong reasons.

What I got in No Quest For The Wicked is like a stepping stone while the author preparing another plot and storyline for the next adventure of Katie and Owen. It is quite good, but even the storyline for this book is quite simple, the storytelling feels like dragging to the whole book. I guess it is OK for a light reading, but nothing much happens besides running around searching and trying to obtain the relics while avoiding other people get it too. And after they got it, they have to wait for the containment box and running away from everyone else that wants the relics for themselves. Everything feels dull and repetitive to force 20 chapters of a book for that simple plot line. For me that simple plot is a lot more suitable for a short story. The good thing about No Quest For The Wicked is that we got to be introduced to a lot of new characters, specially the Elven people, that apparently going through a power struggle between the status quo lead by the Elf Lord and the Free Elf resistance. Overall No Quest For The Wicked still an OK light reading, but not something extraordinary.

Keseluruhan cerita dalam No Quest For The Wicked hanya terjadi dalam rentang waktu satu hari penuh. Buku ini penuh dengan petualangan mengarungi kota melakukan tugas yang berbahaya untuk menemukan dan mengamankan dua buah pusaka sakti yang dipadukan menjadi satu, yaitu : the Eye of The Moon, yang diciptakan oleh Merlin di masa lampau dan disesalinya sampai hari ini karena benar-benar berbahaya, dan the Knot of Arnholt, yang dimiliki oleh kaum para Elf. Setiap pusaka sudah berbahaya dan dapat menyebabkan kekacauan jika jatuh ke tangan yang salah. Tetapi jika dikombinasikan, mereka menjadi senjata hebat yang tidak terkalahkan yang dapat menguasai dunia. Hanya Katie dan Owen yang kebal terhadap pengaruhnya yang dapat menemukan kedua pusaka ini dan menghancurkannya sebelum orang lain yang berniat jahat dapat menguasainya.

Kesan yang aku tangkap dari No Quest For The Wicked adalah buku ini menjadi batu loncatan untuk mengisi kekosongan sementara pengarangnya sedang mempersiapkan plot dan jalan cerita lain untuk petualangan Katie dan Owen berikutnya. Ceritanya sendiri sebenarnya cukup bagus, tetapi jalan ceritanya sendiri cukup sederhana dan ditarik sedemikian rupa sampai dengan akhir buku. Aku rasa masih bisa dikatakan OK untuk bacaan ringan, tetapi tidak banyak hal yang terjadi di dalamnya selain berlari ke sana kemari berusaha mencari dan menemukan kedua pusaka itu sambil menghindari pihak-pihak lain yang juga ingin menguasai pusaka tersebut. Dan setelah mereka mendapatkannya, mereka harus menunggu sementara kotak penyimpanan yang aman dibuat, dan kembali berlari dari semua orang yang terpengaruh oleh kedua pusaka itu dan ingin menguasainya. Hanya dengan plot sederhana itu semuanya menjadi terasa cukup membosankan dan terasa berulang dan agak dipaksakan untuk dapat memperpanjang buku ini menjadi 20 bab. Menurutku, seharusnya buku ini lebih cocok dijadikan cerita pendek saja yang cukup padat dan singkat.

Tapi ada satu hal yang cukup bagus dari No Quest For The Wicked adalah munculnya banyak karakter-karakter baru yang cukup menarik yang diperkenalkan di sini, terutama kaum para Elf, yang sedang mengalami perebutan kekuasaan antara Lord Elf, pemimpin yang sedang berkuasa sekarang, dengan kelompok perlawanan yang mendukung kemerdekaan para Elf. Secara keseluruhan No Quest For The Wicked merupakan bacaan yang cukup OK, tetapi bukan sesuatu yang luar biasa.

Kiss And Spell is the 7^th book in the series, and several new characters from No Quest For The Wicked also appear in it like Sylvester, the evil Elf Lord, and Earl. The story quite good and in Kiss And Spell both Katie and Owen actually get a break time and chances to get to know each other better on a deeper communication level of their relationship. Because all in the previous 6 books before Kiss and Spell, Katie and Owen rarely got enough chance to really talk and get to know each other personally besides talking about their jobs and assignments in order saving the world. In Kiss and Spell the reader got to feels a real date and romance between the Hero and Heroine, we also got to see their hopes and dreams that makes the readers got to know them better. Overall Kiss And Spell is a great book.

Katie dan Owen terjebak dalam situasi berbahaya saat mereka tanpa sengaja berada di tengah-tengah penyelidikan kaum Elf yang hilang. Ditahan dalam pengaruh mantra dan ilusi, Katie mendapati dirinya menjalani kehidupan seperti dalam film Komedi Romantis bekerja di sebuah kedai kopi di atas sebuah toko buku. Dapatkah Katie menemukan Owen pada waktunya untuk menyadarkan Owen tepat pada waktunya dari pengaruh mantra ilusi yang ada dan membebaskan para tahanan lainnya yang juga terpenjara di sana?

Jalan cerita dalam Kiss And Spell cukup bagus menurutku, walaupun ritme ceritanya terasa lebih lambat dibandingkan dengan buku-buku sebelumnya. Hal ini sebenarnya hal yang cukup positif, karena baik Katie dan Owen akhirnya benar-benar memiliki waktu yang cukup untuk saling mengenal satu sama lain secara lebih mendalam. Karena di dalam 6 buku sebelumnya, baik Katie maupun Owen sibuk dengan pekerjaan mereka dan misi dalam menyelamatkan dunia, sehingga mereka jarang mendapatkan waktu dan kesempatan untuk benar-benar berbicara dari hati ke hati dan saling mengenal lebih dekat lagi kepribadian masing-masing. Di dalam Kiss and Spell pembaca mendapatkan kesempatan mengenal mereka lebih dekat saat mereka melakukan kencan romantis sungguhan, dan juga mengetahui harapan-harapan dan impian-impian mereka. Frog And Kisses starts just where Kiss And Spell left off, on a Saturday afternoon, a few days after the ending of Kiss And Spell during Fall season 2006 around early October maybe, and the story ends before spring time, maybe in early March the following year. It looks like that the peaceful time doesn’t last long for both Katie and Owen. Before they could be planning their wedding, there’s another dangerous secret organization called Collegium, that wants to take down MSI and threaten all the people in the magical community that did want to cooperate with them. They are also the one behind the people who stolen Philip’s business a hundred years ago.

They’re even already got a lot of people infiltrate MSI since years ago, scattered almost in all departments in the company. Don’t know which one of MSI employee to thrust, Merlin, Katie, Owen, Rod and Sam must carefully make a plan to counter their attack. The only solution to stop them for good is only by sending an undercover spy to infiltrate their organization and gathering critical information for MSI to take down their leader. But the only problem is they didn’t hire wizard outside their organization, jobs passed down only within Magical family members for generations. MSI only shot is by sending a magical immune as an undercover agent.

But after several months of attempts to send out someone else to do the job without no luck, Katie is facing with difficult choices when she got approached by a recruiter, that seems to be working for Collegium, offering her a job to work for them. This seems to be the only opportunity for MSI to put someone inside Collegium and attack that evil organization for good. Especially when Collegium already make a move to take over MSI with their people in the inside, and the people working for MSI that didn’t have any ties with Collegium, gone missing without any tracks.

But by taking that dangerous assignment, Katie would have to make sacrifice of her own to cut all ties with MSI and all the people inside, including her fiancée, Owen. And she has to be ready to betray MSI and be used by Collegium as their weapon to hurt MSI and the people around her that she cares about. Not to mention the danger that she put herself into if the people in Collegium ever find out that she secretly working for the enemy…

I just love Frog And Kisses. I think the story in this book is the best storyline from the whole series, even could top Much Ado About Magic. It is full with suspense and surprises with a real worthy opponent as an evil villain for a change, and also the romance in Frog And Kisses is more about quality than quantity. The secret rendezvous between Katie and Owen feels so romantic and touching, I can feel their strong emotions really well this time, compare to all the other portrayal of their relationship in other books, that happens often but sometimes lacks that deep emotions, before all they talk was only about work and stuff. And finally both Katie and Owen have achieved a healthy relationship since they are really communicating with each other before making any decision. For once Katie and Owen are not jumping immediately into trouble on the first chance they got, for once Katie listens to Owen and considering his feelings before making any rash decision, and the same thing goes for Owen also. I guess they have learned their lesson then. I also enjoy seeing other characters like Rod, Marcia, Philip, Gemma and Minerva plays a much more important part in helping out to the mission.

Frog And Kisses is the 8^th books in the series, but I’m not so sure if this is the last book, since the ending in Frog And Kisses still very open to any possibilities for me. Anything could happen since we knew that the wedding both Katie and Owen are planning is in May that year, which is only a few months after the ending in Frog And Kisses. But I’m having mix feelings about another sequel, if there will be another books on the way. I’m not so sure that I want to see another disaster threaten and destroy that happiness about the anticipated wedding day. Katie and Owen have been through a lot with saving the world from evil scheme, and for once I just want they to be happy and prioritizing their relationship first above all the work stuff and saving the world missions. But at the same time, I want to see more of Owen and Katie, and their adventure together. If the author decided to stop the series at this point, I won’t mind because to be honest it’s really difficult to have a better plot than the one happens in Frog And Kissess; although a short story or Epilog about Katie’s and Owen’s wedding day is so so much better to closing the series…

Frog And Kisses dimulai tidak jauh dari Kiss And Spell, di suatu Sabtu siang yang indah, beberapa hari setelah akhir cerita dari Kiss And Spell. Ceritanya mulai terjadi di musim gugur sekitar tahun 2006 (mungkin di sekitar awal Oktober), dan rentang ceritanya akan berlanjut dan baru akan berakhir sampai sebelum awal musim semi, sekitar di awal Maret tahun berikutnya.

Setelah berhasil lolos dari ancaman yang terjadi dalam Kiss And Spell, kelihatannya baik Katie dan Owen tidak dapat berlama-lama menikmati masa-masa tenang mereka. Sebelum mereka dapat mulai merencanakan pernikahan mereka, muncul ancaman baru berupa organisasi mafia rahasia yang disebut sebagai Collegium, yang mengincar MSI dan mengancam semua komunitas sihir yang tidak mau ikut bekerja sama dengan cara-cara mereka. Organisasi inilah ternyata yang berada di balik orang-orang yang mencuri bisnis Philip seratus tahun lalu.

Mereka bahkan sudah menempatkan banyak orang yang menyusup secara diam-diam di MSI sejak bertahun-tahun lalu, tersebar di hampir seluruh departemen di dalam perusahaan. Tanpa mengetahui siapa saja karyawan yang dapat dipercaya, baik Merlin, Katie, Owen, Rod dan Sam harus secara hati-hati menyusun rencana yang dapat menggagalkan rencana Colegium untuk mengambil alih perusahaan. Satu-satunya jalan untuk menghentikan ancaman tersebut selamanya adalah dengan mengirim orang yang dapat menyamar dan menyusup ke dalam organisasi mereka dan mengumpulkan informasi penting yang dapat dipakai oleh tim di MSI untuk menyusun rencana mengalahkan pemimpin mereka. Tetapi hal tersebut sulit untuk dilakukan karena mereka tidak mempekerjakan penyihir di luar anggota organisasi mereka, lowongan dalam organisasi diturunkan secara turun temurun dari para anggota keluarga organisasi tersebut selama beberapa generasi. Satu-satunya cara dan kesempatan MSI hanyalah dengan mengirimkan seorang magical immune selain Katie yang bertindak sebagai agen mata-mata yang menyamar.

Tetapi setelah beberapa bulan tanpa hasil dengan mencoba memasukkan Kim sebagai seorang agen mata-mata yang menyamar ke dalam organisasi tersebut, Katie dihadapkan dengan pilihan yang sangat sulit saat ia didekati oleh seseorang yang sepertinya berasal dari Collegium, yang menawarkan pekerjaan kepadanya. Ini terlihat sebagai satu-satunya jalan dan kesempatan bagi MSI untuk dapat menempatkan seseorang di dalam organisasi mereka untuk mencari jalan untuk menyerang dan menghentikan mereka untuk selamanya. Terutama saat itu Collegium sudah bersiap-siap untuk melakukan serangan ke MSI untuk mengambil alih perusahaan tersebut, terbukti dengan banyaknya orang-orang Collegium yang ditempatkan di MSI dan semakin banyaknya karyawan lainnya yang setia ke MSI hilang tanpa jejak.

Tetapi dengan mengambil tugas yang berbahaya itu, Katie harus melakukan pengorbanan terbesar dengan memutus semua rantai dengan MSI dan semua orang yang berhubungan perusahaan tersebut, termasuk tunangannya, Owen. Dan dia harus siap dengan segala resikonya dengan terlihat mengkhianati MSI karena Collegium akan menggunakan dirinya sebagai senjata dalam rencana mereka untuk menghancurkan MSI dan semua orang di sekelilingnya yang ia sayangi. Belum lagi resiko bahaya yang harus Katie hadapi dengan menempatkan dirinya di sarang musuh dan jika penyamarannya terbongkar.

Aku benar-benar menyukai Frog And Kisses. Kupikir jalan cerita dalam buku ini merupakan yang terbaik di dalam keseluruhan series, bahkan mengalahkan Much Ado About Magic. Frog And Kisses penuh dengan ketegangan dan banyaknya kejutan yang terjadi di dalamnya, dengan tokoh antagonisnya yang benar-benar jahat dan tidak segan untuk menghalalkan segala cara untuk mencapai tujuannya.

Untuk sisi Romance nya di dalam Frog And Kisses terasa lebih dalam dan setiap pertemuan diam-diam dengan Owen terasa lebih romantis, menyentuh dan berkualitas dibandingkan dengan di dalam buku-buku sebelumnya yang lebih sering terjadi tetapi terasa kurang bermakna. Di sini aku dapat merasakan kuatnya emosi mereka terhadap satu sama lain dibandingkan dengan sebelum-sebelumnya yang kebanyakan hanya terfokus pada pembicaraan seputar pekerjaan mereka, bukan pada hubungan mereka sebagai pasangan. Dan akhirnya di dalam buku ini, baik Katie dan Owen akhirnya mempunyai hubungan dan komunikasi yang sehat, dengan saling berbicara dan meminta persetujuan satu sama lain sebelum membuat keputusan. Untuk pertama kalinya baik Katie ataupun Owen dapat menahan diri tidak langsung terjun dalam bahaya di kesempatan pertama. Untuk pertama kalinya Katie mendengarkan Owen dan mempertimbangkan perasaan Owen di atas segalanya sebelum membuat keputusan, hal yang sama juga dilakukan oleh Owen. Aku rasa mereka akhirnya belajar pada pengalaman yang sebelum-sebelumnya. Aku juga menyukai para karakter-karakter lainnya seperti Rod, Marcia, Phillip, Gemma, dan Minerva ikut mendukung dan memainkan peranan yang lebih banyak dan penting dalam membantu suksesnya misi yang dilakukan oleh Katie.

Frog And Kisses merupakan buku ke-8 dalam serial ini, tetapi aku tidak yakin apakah serial ini akan benar-benar selesai sampai di sini saja atau tidak, karena akhir cerita di dalam Frog And Kisses masih terbuka untuk buku lanjutannya. Apapun mungkin saja dapat terjadi karena jadwal pernikahan Katie dan Owen rencananya akan diadakan sekitar bulan Mei tahun itu, yang hanya tinggal beberapa bulan setelah akhir cerita dalam Frog And Kisses. Tetapi terus terang aku mempunyai perasaan yang bercampur aduk jika akan ada buku lanjutannya. Di satu sisi aku tidak yakin akum au melihat bencana lain yang terjadi yang mengancam kebahagiaan pesta pernikahan mereka. Untuk sekalinya, Katie dan Owen berhak mendapatkan akhir bahagia mereka selamanya dan berfokus pada kebahagiaan mereka, setelah banyaknya penyelamatan yang sudah mereka lakukan untuk mencegah kejahatan menguasai dunia. Akan tetapi di sisi lainnya, aku benar-benar ingin membaca lebih lagi petualangan dari Owen dan Katie bersama-sama. Namun jika pengarangnya, Shanna Swendon memutuskan untuk menghentikan serial ini hanya sampai disini, aku tidak keberatan, karena memang benar-benar sulit dan menantang untuk dapat mengalahkan plot yang ada dalam Frog And Kissess ini; walaupun cerita pendek atau Epilog mengenai pernikahan bahagia antara Katie dan Owen merupakan cara yang sangat manis untuk menutup serial ini…

Sylvia Meredith : keturunan dari keluarga yang merebut bisnis keluarga Philip, Vandermeer and Company, dan membantu mendanai kegiatan Idris dan para komplotan jahatnya. Ternyata keluarganya terlibat dengan jaringan Collegium. Sekarang dia menginginkan perlindungan dari Merlin dan MSI dengan menukar informasi mengenai Collegium.

The plot is simple and the story line in Paint The Town Red is not related to the main story of Enchanted series, so if you want to skip it, there’s nothing much to be missed.

Criminal Enchantment sets in a timeline before the 1^st book Enchanted, sometime around late August that year, before Katie even aware of the magical world. In Criminal Enchantment we finally got to see what happens that makes Katie got approach and get that job offer to work for MSI. The story tells in Sam’s Point of View, so it’s really interesting book to read, as it gives us readers a different perspective to the series. We also got to see more about Owen crushing on a girl (that particular girl will be Katie). And he is sooo darn cute and hopeless hahaha, I cannot keep myself grinning the whole time reading this short story. Really love it. You could read Criminal Enchantment first before reading Enchanted, Inc. or you could read it after the other books, it won’t matter since there’s no spoilers in Criminal Enchantment that could ruin the other books.

Criminal Enchantment terjadi sebelum awal cerita dari buku pertama Enchanted, Inc. dimulai, mengambil setting sekitar akhir bulan Agustus tahun itu, sebelum Katie menemukan adanya dunia sihir. Dalam Criminal Enchantment kita akhirnya dapat mengetahui apa yang terjadi yang menyebabkan Katie mendapatkan tawaran kerja di MSI.

Cerita ini diambil dari sudut pandang Sam, jadi sangat menarik untuk dapat dibaca, karena dapat memberikan perspektif baru dari cerita yang ada di dalam serial ini. Kita juga dapat melihat lebih dekat bagaimana Owen naksir dengan seorang wanita (wanita itu nantinya akan kita ketahui sebagai Katie). Owen benar-benar sangat manis dan imut tanpa harapan hahaha, aku benar-benar tidak dapat menahan diri tertawa dengan sangat lebar selama membaca cerita pendek ini Benar-benar sangat menikmati membacanya. Cerita pendek Criminal Enchantment ini dapat dibaca sebelum membaca Enchanted, Inc. ataupun dapat dibaca kemudian dalam urutan apapun, karena Criminal Enchantment tidak mengandung bocoran cerita apapun dari buku-buku lainnya.
